Here at Tie Aficionado we like to represent our roots and where we are from. We believe it is important for businesses to share a bit about their origins and the people they surround themselves with. If we are going to provide great neckwear products and content, we would like you to know where it started.
The area was first populated by settlers in 1843 as a trading post for the Hudson Bay Company and called Fort Victoria (see B&W photo below). When the crown colony was established in 1849, a town was planned on the site and made the capital of the colony. It remained a small trading post until the gold rush in the fraiser valley in 1855. Victoria became a main trade port for this new industry and the population and the building boom began here. When the Canadian pacific railway compleated in 1886 the city began to commercialize and this promted another builing boom that saw the creation of builings such as the Empress Hotel, Craigdarroch Castle, and the Buchart Gardens.
Today the city is home to 350 000 local residents and is a thriving place for west coast culture, tourisum, fisheries, logging, technology, fashion, and much more. please enjoy our photo resource that will grow over time.
